John 14:15 “If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth.

The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. (NIV)

Jesus is getting ready to leave this world and return to Heaven. He is giving some parting instructions to His disciples.

He says that, now that he has trained them, he won’t leave them without his abiding presence. He promises the Holy Spirit will come upon them soon.

Just as He promised, days later the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples on Pentecost. Ever since then the Holy Spirit has indwelt every person upon becoming a Christian.

So, as Christians, we are different than others, what Jesus called the world. We have the Holy Spirit living in us, exercising His will upon us when we allow it.

We cannot expect non Christians to understand us, because of this difference. Non Christians know only the things of the world, and this is what excites them, drives them, and fills their days.

They put other non Christians on a pedestal and worship them and choose to be like them. And then they are disillusioned when their idols fail them. They blame God when their world comes crashing down upon them.

Only God will never leave us nor forsake us. The Bible says we will never regret putting our faith in the Lord.
